Mini Bathroom Makeover

One of our spare bathrooms has had the same simple decor since we moved in 10 years ago...it was definitely time for a change. This is considered the "kids" bathroom in our home; therefore I wanted to make it fun & inviting for them!  I wanted to keep my budget low for this project, therefore I had to keep my eyes peeled for good deals & DIY ideas.

Before:
This bathroom decor did the job & looked great for the last ten years. I sold all of the items in the bathroom to a friend of ours to use in his bathroom, I call it a win-win!

After:
On a shopping trip to Ikea a few months ago, I just happened to stop in the Bed & Bath area. I found an adorable striped shower curtain, rug, towels & inner shower curtain liner.  I bought the bright aqua paint at the local hardware store to support local business.  I had to put a few coats of paint on to cover up the green that had been on the walls previously. Once the paint was dry, it made a huge difference to see how bright the bathroom was.

The Wash Your Hands & Say Your Prayers sign was purchased at a local craft fair. My friend & coworker shared part of her rubber ducky collection with me- so cute! My friends husband built me the adorable barn board shelf to match the whale (see below). I did a light paint wash & it turned out beautiful!

I drew out a picture of the whale that I wanted on large paper, then my friends husband cut it out of barn board. I painted a light paint wash with a rag on the whale with navy blue paint & water. It looks adorable above my new Ikea towels!

You are My Sunshine sign was a great price on Barn Owl Primitives! Sign up for her newsletter for great deals!

I am so happy with how it turned out & thankful for helpful friends! Simple, easy & inexpensive; and I have a beautiful bright bathroom that is perfect for my kids!

What DIY projects are you currently working on?

  1. We just got an IKEA here and we need to go visit it still. I really LOVE the new bathroom, the colors are more inviting (especially with the shower curtain!) and I love the new chalkboard sign!
