Feeling honored - Nominated for the Liebster Award

Feeling honored! Last week, I was nominated by Maria at Not Fancy, Just Life for the Liebster award. Thank you very much Maria!  

This award is given by bloggers to other bloggers they consider to be up and coming.

11 Facts about ME:

1.       One of my favorite places on earth is Herbster, WI. A tiny little town on Lake Superior with beaches as far as you can see. I have been going there since I was a very little girl & get excited every time I am able to get there.

2.       My favorite food is Mexican. I could eat chips & fresh salsa every single day!

3.       My Lenten resolution this year is to give up laziness. I am working out daily at least 20-30 minutes.    

4.       I have 1 brother. He is 7 ½ years younger than I am. We are two totally different people & I have always been a mother hen to him. Poor guy!   

5.       I love to do crafts, DIY projects, Scrapbook, stamp cards, sew. I just rarely find the time these days to do it.    

6.        I love to travel. You say “want to travel”; I say “I’m in.” I wish I could afford to go even more than I do now!

7.       I love thrifting and finding great deals at the local second hand shops! I have found so many great deals & adorable items!

8.         I have 2 children, Collin (5 ½) & Amelia (3), been married to my high school sweetheart for 8 ½ years; together for 15 years in May!

9.         My favorite part about myself is my Smile. I love to smile & I love the compliments I receive when I smile. I have had dimples since I was a little girl and people always notice them.

10.      I don’t like coffee, I have only ever had a sip of it and never liked it. People are amazed when I tell them I don’t own a coffee maker.

11.      I love shoes, sandals in particular. I have a whole tote in the basement filled with them right now. I can’t wait to get it back out. I am sick of wearing socks & shoes!

My questions from Maria at Not Fancy, Just Life:
1. What got you interested in blogging?  I have been following tons of different blogs for years. I have wanted to start one, but always thought I should wait until I had taken a class, practiced writing more or had more ideas ready. But, this fall I decided to heck with waiting, I was just going to take the leap!
2. What is your favorite childhood memory? Camping & going to new parks with my family. We traveled all the time, but most of the time it was very inexpensively. Saturday’s my dad loved going for a drive and finding new parks to play at.
3. Your favorite thing to do on a rainy day? Take a nap, read a book and cuddle on the couch watching a movie.
4. Early bird or night owl? Definite night owl. I am not a morning person & never have been.
5. If you won the lottery, what would be the first thing you would buy?  Plane tickets to all my bucket list vacation spots! Ireland, Switzerland, Hawaii, New Zealand, Bora Bora, ….
6. Favorite movie? My favorite movie ever is Mary Poppins. My dad still says to this day that he can sing all of the songs, I would watch it over and over until the tape wore out. I currently own the DVD & VHS tape.
7. Favorite season of the year? Summer. I love to spend the entire evening outside with my kids after supper. We barely come in the door to get ready for bed. I love to be outside & enjoy everything outside!
8. What is your favorite holiday and what are some fun traditions you partake in? Halloween. I have been dressing up for Halloween since I was a little girl. My mom always made us amazing costumes. I love to go to Halloween parties & take our kids trick or treating. I love decorating my house for Halloween and just enjoying the day!
9. Favorite meal? Grilled halibut with dill wedged potatoes
10. Dogs or cats? Neither. Not a pet person.
11. Describe your idea of a perfect date:  Perfect date… that is a hard one. Right now, the perfect date is just having an hour of alone time with my hubby. But, If money was no object. We would go out for a delicious breakfast, then go canoeing for the day and have a picnic on the beach somewhere, end the day with dinner on the river, sipping a glass of wine watching the sun set.

The Liebster Award – General Info and Rules

Most bloggers, at some point, have heard of or received the Liebster award, unless you are a newbie! From the extensive searches I have conducted in my attempts to learn about this award, I have visited a bunch of blogs and gleaned the following information:

• This award exists only on the internet, and is given to bloggers by other bloggers.
• It has German origins – the word “liebster” has several definitions: dearest, sweetest, kindest, nicest, beloved, lovely, kind, pleasant, valued, cute, endearing, welcome, sweetheart and boyfriend (really?)
• It follows similar principles as a chain letter, in the sense that it should be passed forward to a certain number of people.
• It can be misconstrued, depending upon your personal views, as either something wonderful (who doesn’t like awards?) or as an annoyance (a chain letter that involves work).
• The choice lies within each of us to ACCEPT it, and continue PAYING IT FORWARD or to refuse to accept it, thereby STOPPING or INTERRUPTING the chain. However, if you stop the chain, you are only hurting yourself (keep reading for benefits you will have)!
• Personal views play an important part in our choice to participate. Some people have refused to accept it and have made attempts to “break the chain”. There have been many people who have been nominated, yet refused to accept it, and now their blogs have been abandoned.
• Variations have been made over time to the “rules”.
• Marketing plays a role in accepting this award, as other bloggers are promoted. (This is not a bad thing, however, since people should help others!)
• Other awards are a part of the whole “meme“. These include “One Lovely Blog Award”, the “Sunshine Blog Award” and the “Versatile Writer Award”.

It is said that the Liebster award was created to recognize and/or discover new bloggers and welcome them to the blogosphere. In the digital world of the internet, this seems like a nice gesture, in my opinion!
