Portland Girls Weekend - Food & Accommodations

Food was probably one of the major highlights of our trip! We ate some of the most incredible food I have ever eaten!

Thursday for lunch, we stopped at the Farmer's Plate & Pantry in Carlton. It was highly recommended by our Bed &Breakfast hostess, as well as many websites.  We shared probably the best grilled cheese I have ever eaten with a thick slab of mozzarella cheese, spinach & tomatoes. We also shared a delicious salad with apples, craisins & squash.

After a busy afternoon of wine tasting, we ended first our day with an amazing dinner at a French restaurant, Cuvee in Carlton, Oregon. We left this restaurant feeling as though we ate in our weight in delicious french cuisine. It was an incredible 4 course meal with an appetizer of Pommes Frittes, squash soup, Boeuf Bourguignon & Creme Brulee for dessert.

Friday, we began our day with an incredible breakfast at our Bed & Breakfast- The Carlton Inn. We enjoyed visiting with a couple from Auburn, Alabama. Karen was such a gracious host & had great conversation to go along with her delicious breakfast of malted waffles with a fresh fruit & homemade maple rum sauce, local sausages with onions & peppers, followed by homemade vanilla yogurt with homemade granola.

We had another incredible meal for lunch at Recipe in Newberg, Oregon.  The ambiance of this small quaint restaurant was just perfect. We shared thick cut chips with a smoked onion buttermilk dip & the BEST Risotto I have ever had with squash, kale, mushrooms & peppers. If I could eat this meal every single day for lunch, I would- it was that good!

After another fun filled afternoon of wine tasting, we headed to McMinnville to walk along the shops & have dinner at another French restaurant Bistro Maison.  We love to try different things on every menu, so again we shared. We started with a cup of their baked potato soup, then the amazing White Truffle Fondue. The fondue came with chunks of ham, apples, potatoes and bread. By the time we were finished with the fondue, we were already full. Our main course to share hadn't even arrived yet! We ate the incredible hanger steak, but had to leave the amazing fries, as we thought we may burst!

We drove back to our Bed & Breakfast to read and settle our stomachs for the evening!

Saturday morning, we of course devoured another delicious gourmet breakfast at our Bed & Breakfast. Fresh strawberries, raspberries & mango with a light mint dressing was the perfect way to start our day, very light & fresh! This was served with a homemade banana blueberry muffin on the side. Our next course was a mushroom, asparagus and tomato frittata. Talk about feeling spoiled! We enjoyed conversation with a new couple this morning from Portland & Hawaii that were on a quick weekend getaway.

After our delicious breakfast, we headed towards Portland! Our first stop was the Saturday Markets - another iconic Portland landmark. I had never been to such a spectacular market before with so many food vendors. We had the Best Gyro I have ever eaten in my life from Angelina's Gyro's food truck.

Salt & Straw Ice Cream Shop was another iconic highlight we stopped at that afternoon! They offer a whole array of different flavors that you wouldn't normally see in an ice cream shop. We were lucky enough not to have to stand in line. But, when we walked back to our car, the line was down the block!

I had the pumpkin pie ice cream & the sea salt caramel ice cream! Yum!!!

Saturday evening we enjoyed tapa's for dinner at Andina. Andina is a Peruvian restaraunt in downtown Portland. Without making reservations, we wanted to have an amazing meal, but not wait 3 hours to eat.   We shared 4 tapas and had a very delicious mojito! This was the first night we didn't over-stuff ourselves. It felt good to walk around the city & not feel like a 'bloated goat'!

Sunday morning, we woke up early to walk to VooDoo donuts in the rain! VooDoo donuts is another iconic landmark in Portland that we were told was a 'must see'!  I was flabbergasted to find out that they are open 24 hours a day and people wait in line all day long to get in. We waited about 20 minutes outside in the rain with our rain jackets & umbrella. They were delicious!

We chose the maple bacon & Portland's best cream filled donuts to share. We could not eat them all, but wanted to give it a shot!

Overall, the food on this trip was incredible. We didn't have a single meal where we wished we had chosen something else. I am glad that I did some research online before we went on the trip for the 'must eat's' in the Portland area!

Our accommodations for our girls weekend were great as well.

Wednesday evening we stayed at the Clarion Hotel near the Portland airport, as we just needed a quick place to sleep.

Thursday & Friday evening, we stayed at the Carlton Inn, which was the perfect little bed & breakfast. Quiet, comfortable, welcoming and a delicious breakfast were exactly what we were looking for!

Saturday evening, we stayed in downtown Portland at the Hilton. Our main goal was to be able to walk to everything or use public transportation. It was perfect!  Comfy beds, close proximity to everything we wanted to see and a nice hot tub!

Thanks again for joining me in my Girls Weekend to Portland. If you are ever in Portland, I highly recommend checking out all of the amazing places we ate and stayed!
